About Palomino RV

Mr. Vern Landey’s ambition of building a Palomino Camping Trailer originated in 1968. Mr. Landey had been a tent trailer dealer for several years when he realized he could develop and manufacture higher-quality units than those currently on the market. He could very well create units that were lightweight and had practical floorplans at a reasonable price. In a modest factory in Savage, Minnesota, he started developing and manufacturing Palomino pop-up tent trailers.

Mr. Landey decided to relocate his company, Vanguard Industries, as demand for the Palomino surged. The relocation eastward seemed appropriate given the concentration of manufacturing and industrial suppliers in the Elkhart, Indiana area. In 1972, Vanguard Industries established itself in Colon, Michigan. He began to put his plans into action after he arrived in Colon, Michigan. By 1973, he had completed the primary manufacturing facility, and Palomino tent trailers started rolling out the road in a matter of days.

Vanguard Industries flourished in tandem with the demand for the Palomino. Vanguard established a needle division in 1976, a metal fabrication plant in 1978, and various cold storage facilities. The principal production facility and offices were engulfed in flames on May 27, 1992. The first 1993 version of Palomino rolled off the line inside the new 52,300 sq. ft. plant in late August 1992. ft. facility, which was constructed on the same site as the former structure.
